What is a CGMA? The Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) is a global management accounting designation that recognizes the unique role played by men and women at organizations around the world who combine accounting and financial expertise with strategic insight to guide better business decisions. The CGMA designation is the global designation for management accountants. It is powered by the resources and expertise of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), two of the world’s leading accounting organizations. |
What is an Enrolled Agent (EA)?
The Enrolled Agent credential is awarded to tax practitioners to represent taxpayers before the IRS and are authorized to advise, represent and prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates and trusts.
An EA must pass examinations to demonstrate their understanding of taxation, representation and ethics before they are granted practice rights and meet re-credentialing requirements every three years to maintain the certification.
What is an AFSP?
The Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) is a voluntary certification offered by the IRS to tax return preparers who are not enrolled agents, CPAs or attorneys. Participants must complete a specified number of continuing education hours, including an annual refresher course and a comprehension test.
The designation demonstrates a commitment to professional development and knowledge of tax laws. AFSP participants are included in the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers and have limited representation rights, allowing them to represent clients whose returns they prepare during audints and other IRS matters.
What is an ATP?
The Accredited Tax Preparer (ATP) designation is a credential offered by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation® (ACAT) that recognizes tax professionals with expertise in individual and business tax preparation.
Earning the ATP requires passing a comprehensive exam covering tax law, ethics, and tax preparation for various entities, as well as meeting specific education and experience requirements. The designation signifies a high level of proficiency and commitment to ethical standards, distinguishing professionals as knowledgeable and skilled in navigating complex tax situations.
What is an NTPI Fellow®?
An NTPI Fellow® deisgnation represents a tax professional's advanced expertise in representing clients before the IRS. To earn this distinction, enrolled agents, CPAs, or tax attorneys must complete a rigorous, multi-level program through the National Tax Practice InstituteTM (NTPI®).
This training covers a wide range of topics including audits, appeals, collections, and tax law complexities, preparing professionals to navigate IRS regulations and advocate for clients effectively. NTPI Fellows exceed the IRS's minimum education standards and commit to ongoing learning, making them highly skilled in resolving complex tax issues.
